Nick Hornby, author of Fever Pitch, About a Boy and High Fidelity, read from his new book Slam at Berlin’s sold-out Admiralspalast on 8 March 2008.
From 8:30 p.m., internet users could follow the event through a live stream on Seite 4 TV. VVA Networks produced the live presentation with Berlin film-production company filmstrom and technology supplier nacamar, a subsidiary of communications provider ecotel.
“The conceptual preparation was good and the technologies were coordinated very well, allowing us to deliver the live broadcast without problems,” says Benjamin Lehmann, a consultant at VVA Networks. The production used Ajax technology to update the on-air status automatically without reloading the page. Seite 4 TV brings current authors and their books to the internet live and is intended eventually to allow private users to upload videos. Integration with the Seite 4 website allows users to write and submit live comments that also appear on the site.
