Quark Inc. announced today that it is making QuarkViewer XT with Microsoft Silverlight support for QuarkXPress 7 available through its Quark Labs website. QuarkViewer XT is an XTensions module that exports QuarkXPress documents as interactive documents. Using the platform- and browser-independent Silverlight plug-in, QuarkViewer XT can generate complex interactive documents for the internet directly from QuarkXPress.
“Quark’s support for Microsoft Silverlight is an important decision and gives our customers working with QuarkXPress 7 on Windows additional options for sophisticated web design,” says Paul Schmitt, Vice President responsible for strategic alliances and new technologies at Quark. “Microsoft clearly had graphic designers in mind when developing Silverlight; this is evident in the functions themselves, which users can quickly understand, and in the cross-platform standard formats. We are pleased with our strong cooperation with Microsoft and that we can offer our Silverlight exporter as free software through Quark Labs.”
“Customers today are looking for providers that can bridge the gap between their business requirements and technical capabilities,” says Allison Watson, Microsoft’s Vice President for the Worldwide Partner Sales and Marketing Group. “They must be able to trust a company to guide their long-term strategic technology plans as an expert. As a Microsoft Certified Partner, Quark has demonstrated that compelling customer solutions can be developed with Microsoft products and technologies.”
Microsoft Silverlight is not only very easy for graphic designers to use and provides platform-independent standard formats, but now also allows QuarkXPress users to incorporate the reliable rendering and programming capabilities of Microsoft’s WPF and XPS platforms into their work. Application logic, content and presentation are therefore no longer separated, but combined on a unified design and development platform.
