New York. A DVS-SAN forms the heart of MI Post’s new DI workflow. The DVS-SAN allows MI Post to access and manage content in a central location and thus offer its clients a flexible Digital Intermediate workflow with real-time 2K and HD processing. DVS-SAN, DVS’s central storage system, was developed specifically for finishing uncompressed video and digital film. Multiple workstations can access large quantities of data simultaneously and quickly in real time.
Film material is scanned directly from MI Post’s telecines in 2K or HD onto the DVS-SAN. The colourists access the high-resolution material directly on the DVS-SAN and begin grading on da Vinci’s Resolve® Digital Mastering Suite even before scanning is complete. da Vinci Systems has certified the DVS-SAN as a central storage system for Resolve. Reading and writing multiple 2K data streams in real time results in faster and more efficient finishing for MI Post’s clients.

The incorporation of MI Post as a subsidiary in 2007 enables Greystone & Co, Inc to respond to market requirements and acquire further creative talent, new services and technologies, including a DI workflow. When planning the DI upgrade, MI Post’s colourist team – Eric Alvarado, Micah Kirz, Eli Friedman, Dino Regas and Milan Boncich – chose the DVS-SAN, which enables them to achieve their intended expansion in colour correction.
The effects artists and editors at MI-Post can access the same data directly. In this collaborative creative workflow, the DVS-SAN allows multiple workstations to connect and use the footage simultaneously. The DVS-SAN was designed as an open system and can be accessed by workstations running different operating systems, such as Linux, Windows, IRIX or MacOS. Spycer, DVS’s unique Content Mananger, ensures a fully optimised and error-free system.
