Windows Live SkyDrive, a five-gigabyte online hard drive, is now available to German internet users. Windows Live SkyDrive is free, password-protected web storage where users can upload, retrieve and make files available to a selected group at any time and from anywhere. File transfers are encrypted.
At the launch of Windows Live SkyDrive in Germany, every user receives five GB of web storage. The maximum upload size is 50 MB per file.
“Windows Live SkyDrive is a great way to keep information at hand at all times and make it available to others,” says Dr. Dorothee Ritz, Country Manager of Microsoft Online Services Group Germany. “Anyone who has ever been away from home without important data and forgotten their USB stick will particularly appreciate this service, as will everyone who wants to make files easily available online to friends or family.” Windows Live SkyDrive lets files be stored and shared in three ways:
Personal folders: users can store private files securely here and access them over the internet at any time, protected by a password.
Shared folders: files in these folders are made available to a group of people chosen by the user.
Public folders: files stored here can be accessed by any other internet user.
