Following its successful HD launch in early 2008, Broadcast Pix presented the new Slate 5000 HD/SD series at NAB. It combines a 2 M/E switcher with a Harris Inscriber TitleMotion character generator, multiview monitoring, a clip and graphics store, and automatic aspect-ratio conversion, making it the first compact 2 M/E production system.

With Slate 5000, a single operator can run sophisticated 2 M/E HD live productions, including graphics overlays and clips as well as remote audio and camera control. For more complex applications, the various Slate functions can be controlled from multiple workstations.

Slate 5000 offers up to 32 video inputs, six keyers, six DVEs, animated transitions with audio, an integrated multiviewer, a dual-channel clip store for up to 60 hours of DV/MPEG-2 video, a Harris Inscriber character generator and five internal graphics sources.

The Slate 5016 and 5032, as well as the 3016 and 3032 models, include an intelligently controlled router for expanding the inputs and outputs.

Depending on the model, Slate supports SD- and HD-SDI, component, composite, Y/C, DVI and VGA as input and output formats, both synchronised and asynchronous. The aspect ratio is corrected without distortion for the selected output format and can be switched between 16:9 and 4:3.

If required, 16:9 and 4:3 can be output in parallel with the appropriate correction for each.

Slate 5000 expands the Slate 100/1000/3000 1 M/E series, which can be upgraded to Slate 5000 systems. The Slate 5000 series is available from approximately €32,000, with first deliveries in July 2008.
