“Quantum of Solace” follows directly from CASINO ROYALE, the franchise’s greatest box-office success in film history to date. In addition to earning almost US$600 million at the worldwide box office, CASINO ROYALE was also rated by film critics as one of the best Bond films ever.
Filming on the 22nd Bond film began at Pinewood Studios in London in December 2007. “We are delighted that Marc Forster, with his extraordinary talent and unique vision, has agreed to direct our next Bond film,” Wilson and Broccoli said.
Forster said: “I have always been drawn to different kinds of stories and have always been a Bond fan, so it is very exciting for me to take on this challenge. The new direction of the Bond role offers a director a wealth of unprecedented possibilities, and I look forward to working with Daniel Craig, Barbara Broccoli, Michael Wilson, and the Sony and MGM teams on this new film.”
Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, added: “We had a wonderful experience working with Marc on STRANGER THAN FICTION and are excited to work with him again. He is a director who stays very close to the actors and approaches things with intelligence and taste. He will bring everything cinema audiences expect to this film: action, humor, suspense, and thrills. He is the perfect choice for BOND 22.”
“The Bond franchise is a heritage carefully guarded by MGM,” added Harry Sloan, chairman and CEO of MGM. “We share Michael’s and Barbara’s confidence in Marc Forster’s directing talent and support his efforts to develop the Bond story appropriately for today’s cinema audiences.”
