The Panasonic Papp-Helden Video Contest 2009 officially launched on April 1, 2009.
Together with partners t-online.de and Paramount Pictures Germany, Panasonic is searching nationwide for the best low-budget parody short videos.
The contest is open to film enthusiasts aged 16 and over, as well as school classes, video clubs, students and graduates from film schools.
Entry winners can earn not just prizes, but also recognition at the major award ceremony at IFA 2009 in Berlin.
Entries and details are available at http://www.papphelden.de.
Participation works like this: gather friends, build props from simple materials such as cardboard, and playfully recreate blockbusters or familiar scenes on camera.
Then upload a so-called “sweded movie” or fan-fiction style clip between two and five minutes long at http://www.papphelden.de or http://www.t-online.de/papphelden. Original ideas are also welcome, and the uploaded video must be in at least MPEG2 format.
The top three from each of the five monthly user votes advance to the next stage. A prominent jury then selects the celebrated Papp-Held of 2009 at the finale.
Prizes for Best Film and categories such as Best Costume, Best Acting, Best Sound & Effects and Best Camera are substantial, including a trip to a Hollywood premiere and awards from Paramount Pictures Germany and Panasonic. Students and university attendees can win additional special prizes.
