EIZO introduced the S2242W, a 22-inch LCD monitor distinguished from conventional models by its resolution and panel technology. It displayed 1,920 × 1,200 pixels, normally found on 24-inch monitors.
A 0.247 mm pixel pitch and 103 dpi produced detailed, sharp figures and graphics, targeting users with limited space who still wanted a 24-inch monitor’s desktop area.
The resolution supported full-width Full HD video and games. Requiring 10% less space, it suited financial trading rooms and offices unable to accommodate a typical 24.1-inch screen.
The 16:10 monitor used S-PVA technology, offering 178-degree viewing angles, 350 cd/m² brightness and 1,200:1 contrast. EcoView automatically adjusted brightness to ambient light for comfort and reduced power consumption.
A front sensor detected lighting changes and set image brightness so it was neither too bright nor too dark. Average power consumption was 36 watts.
Unlike many monitors that consumed power while switched off, the S2242W had a mains switch for complete shutdown, helping businesses avoid unnecessary energy use outside working hours.
Its colour gamut covered 95% of Adobe RGB. For digital photographers it supported the optional EIZO EasyPIX software and EX1 colour sensor, allowing measurement, profile storage and monitor-printer matching.
German deliveries began immediately, with an expected street price just under €550.
