At the premiere of gamescom – the trade-fair and event highlight of the international interactive-entertainment industry – Koelnmesse is launching the gamescom Award 2009. The prize honours the best games presented at gamescom and shown to the general public for the first time.
Divided by platform, the titles submitted by exhibiting companies will be evaluated, recognised and awarded prizes by an expert jury. The gamescom Award therefore honours outstanding products in the field of computer and video games. All companies exhibiting at gamescom are eligible to participate and can submit their games for the gamescom Award until August 7. A six-member jury composed of experts from publishing and media will carry out the evaluation and selection. There are four categories in total: games for PCs; games for consoles (PS2, PS3, Xbox, Wii); games for mobile devices (Game Boy, PSP, PSP Go, NDS, NDSi, iPhone, mobile phone); and online games. In addition, a platform-independent “Best of gamescom” award will be named. Submitted games must be complete products.
The 2009 jury consists of Michael Trier, Editor-in-Chief, IDG Entertainment Media; Petra Fröhlich, Publishing Director, Computec Media; Christian Bigge, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Computer Bild Spiele; Jürgen Hilse, Permanent Representative of the Supreme State Youth Authorities, Entertainment Software Self-Regulation Body (USK); Oliver Hartmann, Project Manager, spieletipps.de (Brot und Spiele); and Bernhard Schneider, Central Buyer, Multi Media Müller.
