Buffalo Technology’s TeraStation ES is an easy-to-configure, rapidly deployable backup solution for companies and SoHo environments with high data volumes and up to five employees. The integrated FTP server and Web Access ensure smooth access even outside the workplace. Employees who are frequently on the move can access important data and files via notebook, netbook and mobile phone. Data security is ensured by the redundant array of four hard drives with a total capacity of up to 8 terabytes in RAID modes 0, 1, 5 or 10, together with additional authentication and encryption features. Port trunking (the parallel connection of both Ethernet links) achieves data throughput of up to 60 MB/s. An innovative power-saving function also provides flexible energy management and a reduction in CO2 emissions of up to 66%.
Simple installation and integration
Thanks to two Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, the TeraStation™ ES can be integrated quickly and conveniently into existing infrastructures. The IP address is obtained automatically via DHCP but can also be assigned manually, while additional parameters such as the RAID configuration, fixed storage quotas for individual users, or FTP and Web Access can be configured with just a few clicks through the intuitive web interface. The clear LCD display on the front of the NAS also provides a quick overview of the system status.
Safe and fast
Four hard drives of up to two terabytes each can be operated in the TeraStation ES using four RAID modes (0, 1, 5, 10), protecting against data loss when used redundantly. If a hard drive fails, the defective disk can be replaced during operation thanks to hot-swap functionality, avoiding costly downtime for the company. The “Backup Replication Function” also enables another NAS to be connected via LAN for data backup and real-time data synchronisation. In addition, two USB 2.0 ports are available for connecting further mass-storage devices such as external hard drives for backup, as well as an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to protect against power failure, under- or overvoltage and frequency fluctuations. Further security features, such as optional automatic hard-drive encryption and Active Directory support, which allows access restrictions on the NAS to be set up quickly, as well as the option of creating local users
and groups and using them for access control,
provide protection against unauthorised access. Optimised for professional office environments, the TeraStation ES delivers throughput rates of up to 60 MB/s thanks to port trunking, which combines two Ethernet connections for greater bandwidth.
Intelligent, scheduled power-saving functions
Thanks to a range of power-saving functions, the TeraStation ES offers flexible energy management that can help companies save up to 66 percent in electricity. The integrated timer can be used to define standby and active periods. If the NAS is set to “Auto,” the storage solution continuously searches for computers on the network with NAS Navigator installed and automatically switches on and off with them. This enables companies to conserve electricity and resources with little effort.
Availability
The TeraStation ES will be available from the end of January, fully equipped with 2, 4, 6 or 8 TB and a three-year warranty, from EUR 619.99.
