The ENC-200 encodes the ready-to-broadcast signal going to ARD or ZDF into a compressed H.264 format and streams it via an IP network to the hotels in Vancouver, where it is distributed and decoded again. This gives the editorial teams on location the opportunity to follow the Olympic Games in the hotels, where the broadcast signals from ARD and ZDF would not normally be available.
The decision to use the Teracue H.264 encoders/decoders in Vancouver was based on the very simple operation of the ENC/DEC-200 devices via web browser, the very good picture quality at low bandwidth, low latency and the high reliability of these products.
The ENC/DEC-200 series was developed specifically for live-streaming applications in which camera signals, DVD players or internal TV channels are to be transmitted live to the intranet and internet. The H.264 video encoder/decoder ENC/DEC-200 supports real-time compression of video and audio formats.
