The Sony PROduction Awards, Sony Professional’s new film competition, is open to all filmmakers. Whether an emerging filmmaker or an old hand, entrants must succeed in convincing their audience within a maximum of 180 seconds with their contribution to the motto “The Boundless Memory”. The independent community hackermovies.com supports and hosts the competition on its own website.
According to the company, there will be no selected jury during the Sony PROduction Awards. The audience alone decides which entry ultimately wins. The competition is open to all filmmakers who upload a video no more than 180 seconds long, matching the competition motto “The Boundless Memory”, to hackermovies.com between February 15 and March 29, 2010. The earlier the entry is on the website, the greater the entrant’s chances of receiving the most votes from viewers, the company adds.
“With hackermovies.com, we have gained exactly the right community for our Sony PROduction Awards,” says Verena Rosenkranz, Manager Marketing Communication & PR at Sony Professional Germany. “Filmmakers who are passionate about their work exchange ideas here - from film students to film professionals. We are very excited to see which entries the community produces for the Awards and, of course, how the winner will use the new HXR-NX5 NXCAM camcorder in the second round.”
Whoever wins the first round of the competition on hackermovies.com will receive the current Sony Vegas software and personal camera training with a Sony expert as a prize from Sony Professional, with a total value of around 900 euros, the company explains. The winner also automatically qualifies for the second round of the competition, in which they can compete against filmmakers from France, Norway, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom - where the competition is running at the same time. Sony will provide second-round entrants with a brand-new Sony HXR-NX5 NXCAM camcorder to produce their entries. The winner will receive two tickets to the UEFA Champions League final in Madrid, including travel and two overnight stays. The prize has a value of around 3,500 euros.
