The underdog of the year even elicits hymns of praise from CINEMA: “Filmed in the Cloverfield eyewitness style and peppered with superb computer animation, Blomkamp’s fantastic refugee scenario appears completely realistic – even in the action finale bristling with alien weapons.” As an aside, District 9 was nominated for four Oscars in 2010, including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Editing and Best Visual Effects.
Coraline
… is based on a fantasy and horror story by author Neil Gaiman and combines classic stop-motion technique with an animation workflow in Maya. The oppressive story and aesthetic images led to a nomination for “Best Animated Feature Film of the Year” at the 2010 Academy Awards.

Toy Story 3
The most impressive Pixar film because of the complexity of its scenes. The scene alone in which the entire kindergarten “bustles” with all its characters is of breathtaking technical complexity.
Animals United
The first major 3D production from Germany draws very freely on Erich Kästner and shows that animated comedy does not come only from Hollywood.
