In addition to the CONFERENCE programme, animago will of course once again have the Trade Floor this year, with exhibitors such as Autodesk, Maxon, Dell, Wacom, Esri, Rebusfarm and NEC, which can be visited free of charge. There will also be the Wacom Sketch Battle, in which the most creative and fastest minds can win the audience vote, as well as the big AWARD show, in which the best projects are honoured.

Early-bird tickets (78 euros regular ticket price, 48 euros student price and various group ticket prices) can be ordered via this link; here are a few highlights of the CONFERENCE programme in detail.

Key Speakers

Director Kyle BaldaWe already met him at FMX for an interview for DP 05 : 2015, and we are very pleased that he is also giving one of the two keynote presentations at animago CONFERENCE: Director Kyle Balda from Illumination Mac Guff will reveal everything about the “Minions.” Perhaps also whether there will ever be a second part of the spin-off that was extremely successful this year?

MatthewLuhnThe second keynote presentation comes from Pixar: Story artist Matthew Luhn has been working at Pixar Animation Studios since 1992 and has already been involved in all the “Toy Story” parts, the “Monsters” films, “Finding Nemo” and “Ratatouille.” In addition to his work at Pixar, Matthew gives many story masterclasses in which he explains what makes a story good or worth telling and what does not.

For those who unfortunately cannot make it to animago this year, both artists will give seminars directly afterwards: Kyle Balda on October 17 in Berlin on “Character Animation” and Matthew Luhn on October 19/20 in Berlin and October 22/23 in Munich on “Learn how to create stories and characters”.

Further CONFERENCE Presentations

FlorianFriedmann“Game of Thrones” could not be stopped in its fifth season either: The series has just broken the Emmy record and also received the award for best visual effects. Animation TD Florian Friedmann from Pixomondo will explain how the CG dragons for the HBO series were created. And as we have already learned, the dragons in Season 6 will be so much bigger that the team on set will probably only be able to carry around props of the animals’ toes. Not a suitable pet …

LaurieBruggerPaddington, on the other hand, is, even if he is a little clumsy and has a great obsession with honey. Head of Rigging Laurie Brugger from Framestore in the UK will reveal at the CONFERENCE how the cuddly CG bear “Paddington” came to life.

Matthias_MenzLighting Supervisor Matthias Menz is taking a long journey, as he is travelling from New Zealand. The Weta artist will talk about the art of lighting and illustrate Weta’s approach in this area using films such as “Avatar,” “Planet of the Apes” and “The Hobbit.”

DominikZimmerleMarvel films are selling like hot cakes at the cinema and the number of fans keeps growing. VFX supervisor Dominik Zimmerle from Trixter will explain this and bring an exclusive behind-the-scenes breakdown.

MikeChapman The MillThe Mill is also back with a presentation this year: CG Lead Mike Chapmann presents how the Audi commercial “Birth” was created and how the unbelievable can nevertheless be made believable.

MathiasMoehlFor all After Effects users, the presentation by Mathias Möhl is a highlight; the co-founder of Mamoworld will show the best free scripts for the Adobe tool. Mathias Möhl already presented some practical plug-ins for After Effects in DP 06 :2015; many things can be automated and made easier with them.

fb_MarkoPost_TrollVFXFurthermore, we are also very much looking forward to the speakers visiting from Estonia and Finland: Marko Post from FrostFX shows the creation of liquids, and Antti Kulmala and Samuli Torssonen from Troll VFX talk about their project “Iron Sky,” the second parts of which will open in cinemas in 2016.
