Gollum Becomes Rumpelstiltskin

Today I bake, tomorrow I brew, and the day after tomorrow I’ll turn Grimm’s “Rumpelstiltskin” into a Hollywood blockbuster and call it “Steelskin” for marketing reasons.

Something like this must have happened when 20th Century Fox and Gollum actor Andy Serkis agreed to make a film of Rumpelstiltskin.

Nothing is fixed, but Serkis is allegedly set to produce the adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy-tale classic, direct it and also take the lead role himself. Admittedly, judging purely by appearance, that is not entirely implausible. Hossein Amini is said to have already been brought in as screenwriter. Serkis’ feature-film directorial debut, “The Jungle Book,” is currently still in postproduction, so we have not yet been able to convince ourselves of the actor’s directing qualities.

Incidentally, the film is supposed to be called “Steelskin” in the original. Oh, how good that no Anglo-Saxon knows that my real name is Rumpelstiltskin. You cannot expect anyone outside the DACH region to manage that tongue-twister. “Rumplestiltskin,” as the troll is called in English, is also not a very mass-market name for the prospective blockbuster.
