OpenDCX is an open-source C++ Library Extension for the OpenEXR Library and its deep file format.
The extension enables anti-aliasing compositing of OpenEXR Deep Image Files with a mix of solid and volumetric elements, while keeping memory requirements to a minimum. Adding subpixel masks to each sample enables coverage and opacity to be handled separately from one another, so that there is no drastic increase in memory consumption.
“Through subpixel-mask support, we were able to jump back and forth between a deep-image workflow and the old workflow without losing image quality,” says Matt Titus, who worked as FX Lead on “Kung Fu Panda 3”.
