Open-Source Transcoder HandBrake 1.0 – with VP9 Support

After 13 years of development, HandBrake has reached its full version. The update contains revised libraries, and for the first time VP9 and Ultra HD color passthrough with the BT.2020 color space are supported.

A Quick Sync H.265/HEVC encoder is also included in version 1 of HandBrake. However, an Intel Skylake CPU or newer is required for this. In addition to the updated libraries, the updated version adds complete documentation at handbrake.fr/docs, which according to the developers is not yet final.

Compatibility

HandBrake is available for Windows, macOS, and as an Ubuntu deb package, and can be downloaded here free of charge.
