Simulation Focus

For the latest music video “Do Panjereh” by Persian pop artist Googoosh, the animation studio Renderbaron from Düsseldorf contributed all visual effetcs. Modeling and shading were carried out entirely procedurally – from small stones in close-up, cliffs and canyons, to entire planets. Among other things, the team works with Cinema 4D.

Everyone remembers “Dune – The Desert Planet” from 1984. “Arrakis,” the planet from “Dune,” possesses not only the drug “Spice” and enormous sandworms, it also consists of a wonderful desert landscape. Anyone who wants to recreate it in 3D needs no more than a Clarisse licence and the ability to think a little outside the box. We show how the process can work in DP 04 : 17.

The Filmakademie team will reveal in detail in the upcoming DP how the impressive FMX Trailer 2017 was created with the help of motion capturing and a great deal of simulation work in Houdini.
Starting a Studio
We visited Rise | Visual Effects Studios at its new location in Munich. Managing Director Dominik Trimborn will report in the next DP on the challenging early days with torn-down walls, equipment on the roof and much more. In addition, there is an overview on the topics of film financing and artist contracts as well as further tips on establishing your own VFX and animation business.
Further Topics
For that certain finishing touch you want to put on a film project, the internal effects palette of a non-linear editing system is often no longer sufficient. Plug-in packages from third-party manufacturers can provide a remedy. Such as Tiffen, for example – we present the practical plug-in in the workshop.

Further workshop topics will include smoke simulation in Blender, Substance Designer 6, Resolve 14 and Flame 3; we will also test the Resolve Micro and Mini Panel as well as the Ipi Recorder.
animago AWARD & CONFERENCE
CG hair and fur are Alexia Rubod’s great passion. With the animated short film “Anna,” the former MOPA student graduated from the French university. She granted and insights into the film’s creation process, which was nominated for an animago AWARD in 2015.
