For those who don’t know the tool: iZotope makes intelligent audio tools for post, music and mastering, led by RX for repair, Ozone for mastering, Neutron for mixing and Nectar for vocals. It now joins Boris FX beside Sequoia, Samplitude and CrumplePop.
Sound joins the pixel shop
The deal brings iZotope into the same product family as Sapphire, Continuum, Mocha Pro, Silhouette and SynthEyes. For post teams, the practical translation is simple: picture finishing and audio repair now sit closer together under one owner.
The acquired tools include RX for audio repair and restoration, Ozone for mastering, Neutron for mixing and Nectar for vocal processing. That gives Boris FX a much broader audio shelf than before, with tools for dialogue repair, restoration, music mastering, mixing, vocals, and creator cleanup.
RX carries two Engineering Emmy Awards and one Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. And Boris FX, with Boris Yamnitsky at the head, already has an Engineering Emmy for Continuum, Mocha, Sapphire and Silhouette, as well as an Academy Award each for Silhouette and Mocha. The shelf is getting a bit small.
RX is iZotope’s audio repair and restoration toolset for cleaning production sound, dialogue and damaged recordings. It targets the ugly bits that arrive before the mix: noise, hum, clicks, clipped audio, room problems, unwanted reverb and other artifacts that make editors quietly reconsider their career choices. In post, RX is the surgical cleanup station before the audio goes back into the edit, mix or finishing session.
Ozone is iZotope’s mastering suite for finishing music and mixes. It is built for the final polish stage, where EQ, dynamics, limiting, imaging and loudness decisions turn a mix into a deliverable master. In practice, Ozone sits near the end of the audio pipeline, after editing and mixing, when the question changes from “can we fix this?” to “does this translate everywhere?”
What keeps working
All products, licenses and subscriptions remain fully active. Support continues without a channel change. Users do not need to take action.
That is the sentence facilities care about most. Todd Baker will lead the audio unit as VP of Product, iZotope. The core engineering, product and support teams remain unchanged. That continuity matters because restoration and mastering tools often sit inside repeatable, long-established, fragile workflows that nobody wants redesigned during delivery week.
Acquisition history, now with hiss
The earlier acquisitions include Imagineer Systems, GenArts, Silhouette FX, Andersson Technologies, CrumplePop and professional video and audio products from MAGIX (so to speak: Mocha Pro, Sapphire, Silhouette, SynthEyes and Vegas. You can attach the products to the company names, if you want to travel down nostalgia road). The pattern is clear enough: established creative tools move into a shared product family, then development continues under new ownership.
The practical read
This gives Boris FX-Users a much broader finishing stack. It now spans visual effects, planar tracking, roto, matchmoving, video editing, audio repair, mastering, DAW work, voice cleanup and music production.
