3D content conquers the web: Discreet presents 3ds max exporter for Macromedia Director 8.5

New tool enables 3ds max 4 architecture for all leading web platforms

DiscreetTM now announces another important component of its 3D Web Initiative: future versions of Macromedia® Director® 8.5 Shockwave® Studio will fully support 3ds max. The integrated exporter will enable users to transfer 3D content directly from 3ds max to the Director 8.5 authoring environment and display it in Shockwave format. 3ds max is a complete 3D modelling and animation system that is ideal for creating web content and also supports the Shockwave and Macromedia Flash media formats.

<pthe 3ds max 4 software now enables tight integration with Director 8.5. 3ds max Shockwave Exporter supports character studio®’s sophisticated character animation, reactor’s dynamic motion mapping and MultiRes – the same multi-resolution mesh technology from Intel used in Shockwave 3D that allows web artists to preview streaming and detailed results directly in 3ds max.

“With Shockwave Player already being used by more than 200 million web users, we are in a unique position to deliver online entertainment,

e-merchandising and online learning using 3D,” emphasises Peter Ryce, Senior Director of Product Marketing, Macromedia. “With the platform already in place, all we had to do was connect Macromedia Director 8.5 with 3D software that would provide developers with the highest level of functionality. discreet’s 3ds max met these requirements perfectly due to its open platform and large number of content developers”.

“Interactive 3D animation allows developers and consumers to utilise 3D on the web much more broadly, in a scalable format and with minimal bandwidth requirements,” added Phillip Miller, Senior Director of Software Products at Discreet. “Macromedia and Intel have jointly developed authoring and playback solutions with a powerful connection to Discreet’s leading 3D content development products. Artists can now deliver the sophisticated content that leads to increased online sales, engaging websites and high customer satisfaction.”
