Munich, 10 April 2002. Lionhead Studios and the associated Black & White Studios, Intrepid and Big Blue Box selected NXN Alienbrain 5.0 for current game projects.
The scalable digital production infrastructure was intended to help the studios manage the large data volumes generated by titles such as Black & White. Alienbrain combined media-asset management, project management, user and workflow management, and source-code version control.
Tim Rance, Director of Technology at Lionhead Studios, said the system managed tasks and files from the start to the end of production, leaving the team more time to develop games. He described Alienbrain as the only evaluated system capable of controlling the studio’s complex digital projects.
Black & White Studios, Intrepid and Big Blue Box operated as satellite studios around Peter Molyneux’s Lionhead. The shared platform was intended to improve teamwork and preserve quality while accelerating delivery.
Alienbrain remains a version-control product for large visual assets. The deployment combined asset management with game-development workflow.
