DVC introduced ClipRecorder HD as an open rackmount workstation for recording and playing several hours of uncompressed HD video at 8- or 10-bit resolution.
The system used the Optibase VideoPump 811, a full-duplex, multistandard 64-bit/66 MHz PCI board for real-time input and output. It read and wrote directly to the native NTFS file system and was compatible with QuickTime.
Combined with QuickClip disk-recorder software, ClipRecorder became a clip-based HDTV recorder with EDL import, playlists, RS-422 control, Louth and Odetics protocols, and VTR emulation. The basic configuration included four AES/EBU channels and eight embedded audio channels.
DVC offered the system as a turnkey digital disk recorder or an open SAN gateway with SCSI or Fibre Channel interfaces. Options included SD video I/O, HiCon32 format conversion between HD and SD, and SoftEngine HD for MPEG-2 encoding.
Optibase’s video technology later became part of VITEC. ClipRecorder belongs to the archive’s playback, storage and broadcast coverage.
