Munich, 19 July 2002. Discreet, a division of Autodesk, announced Cleaner 6 for Mac OS X for autumn 2002. The application encoded and delivered content in major digital-media formats.
Cleaner 6 supported QuickTime 6, including MPEG-4, for distributing multimedia over networks, platforms and wireless devices.
New functions
Aqua interface enhancements, watch folders, drag-and-drop operation and nested settings simplified project workflow. The application used Mac OS X multithreading and G4 processors to accelerate encoding. It continued support for Apple QuickTime and popular streaming formats.
Cleaner formed part of a product line with Cleaner Central and Cleaner Streaming Studio. Apple’s Ron Okamoto described Mac OS X and QuickTime as a stable high-performance environment, while Discreet General Manager Paul Lypaczewski positioned Cleaner as a cross-platform mastering and encoding tool for web, DVD and CD-ROM delivery.
Price and availability
The announced European price was €750, with an upgrade from Cleaner 5.1 priced at €220. Purchasers of Cleaner 5.1 during the qualifying period were promised a free upgrade. Discreet’s media tools became part of Autodesk Media & Entertainment. Cleaner belongs to the archive’s streaming and transcoding history.
