Video Packaging Unveiled: Netflix goes GPAC

This article is a conversation with Motion Spell’s Founder and CEO Romain Bouqueau. Anne Aaron (see on the right), Director of Encoding Technologies at Netflix, recently said: “As part of our strategy to build a flexible and efficient packaging platform, we needed a strong partner with deep expertise of the best encoding and packaging tools.” In November 2022, Motion Spell, a media technology software and consulting company based in Paris, concluded an 18-month transition phase with streaming provider Netflix – resulting in: the integration of GPAC Open-Source Software into Netflix’s worldwide content operations.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Nokia are releasing the blockbuster Ghost Rider with Nicolas Cage on an SD card for mobile phones – thanks to Actimagine. The French company developed the Mobiclip video compression codec for mobile platforms, which can play any type of video, free or premium content in DVD-like quality (24fps Full Screen) without limiting battery life.

Digital-Rapids StreamZHD – Multiformat HD Encoder

With StreamZHD, Canadian manufacturer Digital Rapids presents a multiformat encoding system with which it is possible to generate corresponding HD files from a wide variety of sources (SDI, Analog, File).
