3Dlabs announced immediate availability of its Wildcat VP graphics accelerators.
The cards used the company’s Visual Processing Architecture, incorporating more than 200 32-bit processors in one visual processing unit. Claimed performance exceeded 170 Gflops and 1.2 TeraOps.
The freely programmable VPU was intended to bring interactive rendering closer to professional production and supported emerging high-level shading systems including OpenGL 2.0.
Three price tiers were announced: the VP 970 at US$1,499, VP 870 at US$799 and VP 760 at US$599. The cards belong to Digital Production’s workstation, VFX and 3D-animation history.
