Curious Software introduced version 3.5 of World Maps, a map-visualisation application supporting both 2D views and animated 3D presentations.
The layered environment supported zooming, rotation, regional colouring, selectable detail and text. Output could be sent as uncompressed video with suitable hardware or saved as AVI or QuickTime for presentations and web use.
Relief maps could be exported as OBJ files for further work in Maya or 3ds Max. A planned version 3.8 was expected to add an integrated 3D Animator in November 2002.
The technology later evolved into Viz Curious Maps and Viz World. It belongs to the 3D-animation and broadcast-graphics archive.
