Mediahouse, TWI’s facilities arm, selected a Quantel generationQ system for Sports News Television (SNTV) and TWI sports, documentary and entertainment production. SNTV, a TWI and Associated Press joint venture, produced six sports-news bulletins a day.
The installation centred on an eight-port sQServer with 100 hours of 25 Mbit/s MPEG-2 storage. Six QCut journalist-editing systems and four QView browsing stations gave the production team access to server material, while QEdit Pro handled effects-led craft editing.
Quantel’s Integrated Server Automation supported future storage growth and browse-quality media. Pharos automation controlled playout through a CORBA interface, with an sQEffects panel providing backup.
Quantel technology later became part of Grass Valley. The installation is part of the Quantel and broadcast archives.
