Memorex expanded its consumer-electronics range with the DVD Video Case. The black plastic box resembled the cases used for retail and rental films and was intended to store recorded movies and camcorder material alongside a conventional DVD collection. Packages included common 4.7 GB DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R or DVD-RW media.
The product was designed for home entertainment and complemented Memorex’s VHS cassettes, music CD-R/RW and Pocket CD-R/RW range. The company argued that the packaging would help retailers separate IT products from audio/video media and arrange stock in line with customer expectations. Cases were available singly or in packs of two or five.
Shipments were due in February 2003. A two-pack of DVD+R or DVD-R media cost €6.49, while a two-pack of rewritable DVD+RW or DVD-RW media cost €9.99.
