Memorex announced a new generation of DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW media. The 4.7 GB discs stored up to 120 minutes of digital video. Four-speed recording at up to 44 Mbit/s could fill supported media in under 15 minutes.
DVD+R/+RW products were certified by the DVD+RW Alliance. DVD-R supported 4× writing and DVD-RW 2×, following DVD Forum specifications established in August 2002. The media was designed for 4× DVD writers; older drives could require a compatibility update, although firmware would not increase a drive’s physical write speed. Firmware 1.51 was offered for the Memorex DVD Recorder 100.
The DVD+R and DVD+RW media were expected in April 2003, with DVD-R and DVD-RW versions following shortly afterwards.
