Joe Alter’s Shave and a Haircut 2 for Cinema 4D introduced a revised hair engine that used about one percent of the memory required by the earlier version while improving visual quality.

Reflections, transparency and styling

Rendered hair could appear in reflections and behind transparent objects. Styling controls allowed artists to comb hair along polygon directions.

The release could generate and animate hair directly on HyperNURBS objects with weighted points and edges.

Requirements and 2003 pricing

Version 2 supported Windows, Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X 10.1 or later. It required at least Cinema 4D R7, with R8 recommended. The full product cost €349 through Maxon resellers or its shop, while the version 1 upgrade carried a €49 service fee.

Current host support and rendering behaviour should be tested before production use.
