Interactive Effects released Piranha HD 3.6 for film and video editing, compositing and effects on SGI Fuel, Octane2 and Onyx workstations.
Bezier, still-store and interlace controls
The update added a Bezier mode with editable tangents in Rotogon and Rotospline. A new still-store tool captured and recalled reference frames for comparison. Video layers gained an interlace display with field dominance set automatically from the clip source.
Resolution-independent finishing
Piranha allowed several effects to be combined concurrently through either precise layer operations or exploratory setups. Piranha HD Edit supported uncompressed nonlinear editing at D1, HD 1080i/30 and 2048 × 1556 film resolution.
The system included EDL support, mastering, paint, compositing and effects for late-stage changes. Current SGI hardware, storage and format compatibility should be verified before production use.
