Even before recording out to film, iQ users can use it to check the film look of their project on the monitor or projector in their suite. This saves time and, where there are major deviations between video and film, also a lot of money. The KDM software tool creates 3D lookup tables (3D LUT) to ensure consistency between the display on the monitor or projector in the Digital Intermediate (DI) suite and the final film output. To create a 3D LUT accurately, KDM requires information about the type of film used, the way the laboratory works and the characteristics of the suite monitor or projector. The software queries the user for the film and laboratory details and has a routine for accurately measuring the monitor/projector characteristics. KDM then creates a 3D LUT that the iQ system loads into its optimized hardware, where it is applied to the monitor/projector data in real time.
