The new solution allows the broadcaster to move a large video-file archive automatically into virtual storage and restore material to the playout server when required.
Sony’s system gives QVC a nearline mass-storage archive connected by Fibre Channel to Grass Valley Profile video servers. The Sony PetaSite-S CSM-60 robotic library provides 30 TB of storage, includes three SAIT drives and scales to 1,500 TB. At 50 Mbit/s MPEG-2, the system holds around 1,250 hours of video; at 30 Mbit/s MPEG-2 I-only, capacity rises to approximately 2,000 hours.
