Live production depends on reliable communication between the camera operator and the control room. High-end studio cameras handle this through triax systems carrying intercom, power, picture and audio signals. DV cameras are not designed for that role.
Kansas-based Camplex offers systems intended to solve the problem. The signals can either be multiplexed and carried over one cable or, as with the PRO-X C5 introduced at NAB, transmitted in parallel over Category 5 cable. The system costs US$1,600 and is scheduled to ship in August 2005.
