JVC has added the DT-V100CG to its range of high-definition CRT monitors. The five-rack-unit device uses a 10-inch “natural flat” picture tube that switches between 4:3 and 16:9 display modes, with a mask supplied for 16:9. Its compact design allows two monitors to be installed side by side in a 19-inch rack, supporting studio and outside-broadcast applications such as postproduction, monitoring and image evaluation. Despite its high resolution, JVC says the 10-inch model is priced in a segment usually occupied by standard-resolution monitors. It costs €1,350 excluding VAT and is available now.
Like the 17- and 19-inch versions, the DT-V100CG is designed specifically for digital applications and uses replaceable input and output modules for flexible deployment. Front-selectable input slots can be fitted with audio and video I/O modules according to customer requirements. Options include composite and Y/C, analogue component/RGB/RGBHV, and a range of SDI and HD-SDI boards. A dual HD-SDI card can process both SD- and HD-SDI signals on a single board, switching automatically between them. The monitor can therefore be configured over time for analogue, SDI or HD-SDI signals. It supports relevant audio and video signals including HD and SD at 50/60 Hz, HD-SDI and SDI, NTSC, PAL, 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i and 1080/24psF. Composite and analogue-audio inputs are included as standard. Levels for audio embedded in SDI and HD-SDI signals can be displayed as moving bars.
While manufacturers such as Sony are moving their display ranges to LCD technology, JVC continues to emphasise the advantages of cathode-ray-tube devices. The company considers CRT monitors superior to newer technologies for selected applications.
