The Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC) has expanded its Viewperf benchmark so that glDrawElements is now used instead of glArrayElements in the Maya part of the benchmark. This enables a better assessment of application-specific performance. In addition, the benchmark is to contain new viewsets for VisMockup, 3ds max, and UGS NX3. It also checks whether 64-bit applications actually run in 64-bit mode or are merely emulated in 32-bit mode.
The new Maya 6.5 benchmark addresses the changes to the OpenGL implementation in Maya 6.5. In doing so, it reduces the CPU load and highlights differences in the system configuration. In addition, benchmarks for the programs Pro/E, Wildfire 2.0, UGS NX3 and Solid Edge V17 are planned for this year.
Viewpref 9 is expected to be available in about three months and can then, like all other benchmarks, be downloaded free of charge under on the SPEC site.
