Canon is a member of the HDV consortium but, unlike Sony and JVC, has not yet added an HDV camera to its product range. Expectations are correspondingly high. The company has now shown a prototype at IBC.
The camera’s shape recalled Canon’s XL1 and XL2 standard-definition models, although the device was not yet operational and was displayed inside a glass case. The company immediately disappointed the interest it had generated: even when asked, Canon disclosed no further information about technical details, a shipping date or the price.
