Video codec specialist Mainconcept is releasing version 2 of its H.264/AVC encoder. According to the manufacturer, it has been completely rewritten and is intended to deliver the best possible quality after optimization.
The H.264 Encoder v2 application Windows for consumers is the first Mainconcept product to contain the new codec. Applications for Mac and Linux are to follow shortly. The codec is also available as an SDK for Windows, Mac, Linux, Texas Instruments DSPs, Philips PNX DSPs and Intel XScale processors.
The program supports Baseline, Main and High Profile and, according to company information, is fully compatible with the H.264 standard. It also contains the very fast and high-quality H.264 decoder, which makes it possible to play H.264 files in Windows Media Player or other applications. AAC encoding and decoding are also supported.
The consumer product is available for immediate download for 499 euros. A trial version of the H.264 SDK for companies is available on request. A free demo version of the MainConcept H.264 Codec v2 (with watermark) and developer information are available on the Mainconcept web pages listed below.
