NAB: Grid-TV and NorCom Link TV and IPTV

The combined system automates programme distribution across conventional television and IPTV.

IPTV specialist Grid-TV and multimedia newsroom and archive supplier NorCom are collaborating to connect conventional television with IPTV. Their first joint NAB system combined editorial and programme planning for IPTV, allowing traditional broadcasters and IPTV operators to distribute complete programmes and individual reports automatically.

The solution uses NCPower, NorCom’s suite for cross-media production, management and archiving of formats such as news, with TV-Edit 5.0 HD for programme planning over IP-based media.

NorCom and Grid-TV said existing programmes or individual segments could be distributed through traditional television or IPTV without additional production work. Programmes could be converted and sent online in full or by editorial section, while new IPTV segments could be created and transmitted through the NCPower newsroom system. Archive material and other multimedia content could be added before IP delivery.

The system also supports HDTV distribution and programme planning over IP-based media. The partners demonstrated it in the Bavarian Pavilion at NAB.
