At NAB, Sony is showing the prototype of an HDCAM-SR camcorder. The great advantage of this device lies in the elimination of the cable from the camera to a remote recorder and the associated greater freedom of the cameraman.
Still unnamed, the device equipped with a docking recorder is intended to enable frame rates of 1 – 60 frames per second (progressive) at a data rate of 880 Mbit/s. At frame rates of 1 – 30 frames per second, the camcorder works in 4:4:4 RGB mode, and at higher frame rates in 4:2:2.
Sony is not yet revealing when the device will come onto the market. However, the price of the camcorder is expected to be around 200.000 euros.
