Compared with the previous year, NAB 2006 recorded only a slight increase in visitors. While the organizers counted a total of 104.427 registered visitors in 2005, this year there were 105.046. Of these, 25.537 came from abroad (2005: 23.401). 1294 media representatives (2005: 1115) were present, including two reporters from DP.
No longer the future but the present was HDTV at NAB 2006. The manufacturers closed the last gaps in their product ranges. Nevertheless, SD is still far from dead, but hybrid or at least upgradeable solutions are now being promoted. Offerings for broadcasting over the internet and mobile TV are strongly on the rise. What is needed here are solutions that prepare the content as simply and as automatically as possible for multiple distribution paths.
NAB 2007 will again take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from April 14 to 19, 2007. The organizers stated that the event was already well booked. The conference program will be given more space next year, and the organizers want to reorganize the exhibition area: In 2007 it will be divided into the areas Acquisition and Production, Post-Production, Management and Systems, Delivery and Distribution, Display Systems, Pro Audio, Radio, RTNDA@NAB, Technologies for Worship and a “Content Village”.
Broadcast enthusiasts can find a detailed background report on NAB 2006 in DIGITAL PRODUCTION 04:06, which appears on June 30.
