For NAB, AJA is giving its Kona3 cards a software update: With version 2, users can now also record and play back 2K material with the Kona3 cards. During capture, the cards store the video data as a DPX file and at the same time create a referenced Quicktime movie. In addition, the cards can now convert from 1080 to 720 and vice versa. Via HSDL, the card can also record up to 16 embedded audio channels and play back uncompressed 2K material. The update is available immediately and free of charge for owners of a Kona3 card. The card costs 2.999 US dollars, the associated breakout box 299 US dollars.
A similar update with the same functions is also available for the Xena cards on the PC. Here too, the software update is free for existing customers. The new price of the Xena2K is 3.490 US dollars.
Alongside the video cards, AJA is also announcing two converters: the HD10AVA and the RD10MD. The HD10AVA converts an analog composite, Y/C or YUV signal into an SDI signal. It handles both SD and HD and embeds up to four audio channels, which are connected via XLR connectors. This device is intended specifically for HDV cameras that have only an analog HD output. The HD10AVA is to be available from the beginning of June and cost 990 US dollars.
The second converter is a a down-converter from HD to SD: The RD10MD converts a 10-bit HD-SDI signal to SD in broadcast quality. With a 23,98/24p/psf input signal, it supports a 3:2 pull-down in real time.
The card has two channels, each of which has an SDI and an analog output. Both channels can be configured independently of each other.
This converter is a module card for AJA’s FR1 or FR2 frames. It is available immediately and costs 2.390 US dollars.
