Christie Digital Systems, a provider of visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, will significantly increase production of the Christie CP2000 DLP Cinema projectors. According to the manufacturer, the 2K projector has been installed in 60 percent of cinemas worldwide; only recently, the company announced the installation of its 1,000th Digital Cinema projector. Christie expects a production increase of 400 percent by the end of the year. To keep pace with demand, manufacturing capacity at the company’s Canadian location has already been expanded to the point that up to 400 units per month can be produced by the end of 2006. The company is pursuing further expansion plans for 2007, when DLP Cinema with 2K resolution becomes the industry standard.
Jack Kline, president and COO at Christie USA, states: “One year ago today, no one could predict that Digital Cinema would face such successful – and rapid – acceptance in commercial use. By now, no one doubts it any longer. It is a win-win situation for the entire industry, offering audiences a wow effect through brilliant, razor-sharp images while at the same time distribution costs for the studios fall drastically. As the first licensee of the revolutionary 3-chip DLP Cinema technology from Texas Instruments, it seems only logical that Christie should be the first company to break the 1,000 barrier and lead the worldwide market in installations.”
