SIGGRAPH: Three New Morgan Kaufmann Books

Three new practical titles cover animation, character design and artificial intelligence.

Morgan Kaufmann introduced three practice-oriented books for SIGGRAPH 2006.

Animation from Pencils to Pixels by Tony White

The book presents classical animation methods and their application to modern computer animation. It covers the complete process from character development and animation through final compositing. Publication was planned for October 2006 at approximately €44.

Better Game Characters by Design by Katherine Isbister

Isbister examines the creation of video-game and computer-game characters intended to sustain player interest. The book discusses the avatar as the main connection between game and player, the design elements that shape that relationship, and their possible psychological effects.

Artificial Intelligence for Games by Ian Millington

Millington explains how to incorporate artificial intelligence into games, covering the process from algorithms to implementation and highlighting constraints such as limited computer performance. The book was scheduled for release on 30 August 2006 at €62.
