With the increasing distribution of video and audio content via channels such as the Internet, demand is rising for platforms with which the content can be adapted to the respective medium as automatically as possible. With the Video Production Management System (VPMS), Solutions for Media (S4M) offers a corresponding solution. Since May, the tool has been used to handle the fully automatic creation of podcasts at the Cologne news channel n-tv. Shortly after their broadcast on TV, several news and business programmes can be found daily at http://www.n-tv.de/podcast, where they can be accessed free of charge and played with programs such as Apple’s iTunes or iPodder. With VPMS, the desired programme can be selected conveniently and sent as a podcast directly from the newsroom system. The user can automatically add openers or closers such as special title sequences to the podcast, as well as overlays. If changes have to be made to the programme, the videos can be re-edited promptly with the S4M solution.
VPMS will also play a central role at Radio Bremen. Together with the companies BFE as general contractor and d’accord, S4M is ensuring that a trimedia workflow can be represented in the new Radio Bremen broadcasting-centre building, covering the media of TV, radio and the Internet. VPMS handles the complete video handling, from ingest and browsing and rough editing through to management of all the video material. In this process, essences are available simultaneously for television, radio and the web, and direct exchange between the different media types is possible.
