Panasonic has promoted its new AJ-HPX2100 multiformat camcorder since NAB 2006. The company presented the camera to customers for the European market alongside IBC. Deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2007 at a price of around €30,000.
The mobile camera supports all HD formats and targets current news and sports productions as well as documentaries, promotional work and entertainment formats. In line with Panasonic’s product philosophy, the camera can be integrated into broadcasters’ IT infrastructure. In addition to the DVCPRO HD platform, the camcorder can use the new AVC-I compression method, with the “I” standing for intra. AVC-I is a 4:2:2 studio format based on the H.264 compression standard and permits twice the data volume of DVCPRO HD to be processed. Users can select recording at 100 Mbit/s for high-end productions or 50 Mbit/s for current productions.
The AJ-HPM100 mobile recorder is scheduled to become available in November 2006 for €12,000, supporting HD and P2 productions. It takes over the functions of DVCPRO editing stations and its rugged construction prepares it for field use. As a multiformat device, the recorder is suitable for recording and transferring HD and SD formats.
