At the IBC, NDS, a provider of technology solutions for digital television, announces the launch of XTend, a fully integrated solution for program providers. The software is integrated into set-top boxes with IP connectivity as a plug-and-play solution. In this way, the set-top box automatically detects PCs and other storage media connected to the network. XTend supports all format conversions, allowing content to be transferred seamlessly from the PC via the set-top box to the television. A filter option permits direct access to PC content via the television.
“XTend is the natural continuation of our offering for program operators,” explains Yossi Deutsch, Vice President Product Marketing at NDS: “It allows users of broadband platforms to enjoy their media consumption in the most natural and comfortable environment imaginable – via the television in the living room. At the same time, XTend strengthens the importance of the set-top box as the hub and most important access point for all media in the home network.”
At the IBC, NDS is also showing a set-top box with an integrated Synamedia Metro solution for IPTV. The combination of Synamedia Metro middleware with Digital Rights Management (DRM), in conjunction with an IP set-top box from Samsung, represents a complete IPTV solution for telecommunications providers.
NDS has not yet provided information on prices and availability of the products.
