For the first time in Europe, on the occasion of the IBC (stand 8.260), Omneon showed its new Mediagrid storage system presented at this year’s NAB. The storage system is intended primarily to store larger digital media data in the file format of broadcasters and production companies.
The storage system in conjunction with the Grid Computing processing system expands, Omneon marketing director Geoff Stedmann told DP, the storage capacities and the access and processing times within the entire workflow.
New versions of the Pro Browse, Clip Tool Pro and MirrorTool application programs for the Omneon Spectrum Media Server and the MediaGrid storage system complete the array of innovations and new developments for existing applications. With the changes, Omneon wants to improve the workflow of the data files.
The Pro Browse browsing and viewing software can now recognise image scenes and automatically generate its own image sections. The new version also contains simpler audio-data recognition and processing.
Clip Tool Pro controls the storage and playout of video data on the Spectrum Media Server. The expanded version 2.0 extends addressing for managing new video data.
MirrorTool synchronises access to two Omneon computers. With version 2.0, it will in future be possible to synchronise Mediagrid as well as other computers with the Omneon computers.
The multi-format applications of the Omneon Spectrum Media Server are adapted to Avid’s DNxHD compresssion method and to Sony’s XDCAM HD recording format.
