GeeVS’ Lightworks HD editing system, which is based on Matrox hardware, is now also available as a software-only version. The new product is called Softworks and matches the larger Lightworks systems in appearance, operation and functionality. The only difference is that it does not support Matrox hardware. Softworks is also available in an LE version that provides no effects and serves only as an editing tool.
Both packages can be operated with the Lightworks console, which customers must purchase separately. The products are available now and cost €7,500 for Softworks and €3,000 for Softworks LE.
Lightworks VIT is an addition to the full Lightworks system. It is a capture manager similar to those found in other editing systems, but VIT can control four tape machines or disk recorders simultaneously. It works only with the manufacturer’s recorders, such as the GeeVS SD-1.
For large projects, the system sorts all clips before capture and optimises the capture order, ensuring that each tape needs to be loaded only once. By controlling as many as four tape machines in parallel, even large projects can be recaptured relatively quickly. VIT is part of the new Lightworks version; the manufacturer has not announced a price.
GeeVS also showed a new version of its video I/O server, the GeeVS SDLE. Like the GeeVS SD, it is a disk recorder, but the SDLE provides no more than two ingest channels, compared with four on the SD. Its two ingest channels, with one supplied as standard, are also available as analogue YUV inputs, which the SD recorder does not provide. Pricing for the video server depends on its configuration.
