With the Imager HSR, Imagica is presenting its fully developed film scanner for the first time. A prototype was already on display at NAB, but now, accoridng to the manufacturer, the device is ready for series production and is to be delivered in the fourth quarter.
The Imager HSR is Imagica’s first film scanner and has a maximum resolution of 2K. The company has for the time being scaled back development of the Imager HSX model, which is intended to offer resolutions up to 4K, in order to bring the HSR to market earlier.
Through a simple design – the optical system consists of only five individual components – the HSR is only slightly prone to errors and easy to maintain. A 2K LCOS (Liquid Crystal On Silicon) from JVC exposes the image sequentially, which means three monochrome images for red, green and blue are exposed one after another. This allows the exposer to achieve a speed of three frames per second.
The chip also offers the advantage that JVC is currently working on its further development and intends to bring a 4K version to market by the end of 2007. This 4K chip is to have exactly the same dimensions as the current 2K chip and be almost trouble-free to replace. A 4K upgrade without conversion is therefore possible.
The exact price of the device could not yet be learned at the trade show, but it is expected to be in the price class of an Arrilaser.
